Dulþs Alareikis

Information

  • Name Meaning: From the Gothic word dulþs (“feast, celebration”) and the name of Gothic King Alaric I. Dulþs Alareikis means “Feast of the King of All” or, alternatively, “Feast of Alaric.”
  • Date: The full moon of Anstimenoþs.
  • Deities Honored: Teiws, Alaric.
  • Purpose: To celebrate Alaric’s unifying kingship that saved the Visigothic peoples from self-destruction.
  • Offerings: Standard offerings.
  • Associated myth: The people who would become the Visigoths are tearing apart, either through internal conflicts or external subjugation. Troubled by these events, Teiws enlists the help of His nephew Balþa to elevate a king amongst the humans who will do what no king has done before. Balþa chooses Alaric, a descendent of Teiws Himself, to unite the Visigoths.

Suggested Activities

If celebrating alone, worshipers can read the myth of Alaric written for Sidjus Reidarje Sauilis. If celebrating in a group, worshipers can read it aloud together. Alternatively, they can act out the myth through ritualized theater, giving offerings to both Teiws and Alaric at the beginning of the rite to indicate its sacredness.
