Nahts Liubaleika

Information

  • Name Meaning: From the Gothic words liubaleiks (“lovely”) + nahts (“night”). Nahts Liubaleika means “The Lovely Nights.”
  • Date: 3 days beginning on the new moon of Uhtwomenoþs.
  • Deities Honored: Þaibons, Fairguneis.
  • Purpose: To celebrate the return of Sauil, as well as to celebrate love and relationships.
  • Offerings: Flowers, milk, honey, grain.
  • Associated myth: After returning home with the rescued Sauil, the Gods celebrate Her marriage with Gapt. Laguhwaþo presides over the ceremony, attended by Her son Liufs.

Suggested Activities

On the first night, worshipers give offerings to Sauil to welcome Her back from Her departure. They can wear yellow and gold in celebration, decorate their homes with yellow flowers, and eat yellow foods for protection and peace at home.

On the second night, worshipers give offerings to Laguhwaþo for happy and healthy relationships, and for long-lasting relationships as well. They can wear green and blue, decorate their homes with blue flowers, and eat seafood for wealth and prosperity (if not allergic).

On the third night, Her son Liufs receives offerings for worshipers who are looking to attract lovers or for success in their sexual endeavors. Worshipers can wear pink and red, decorate their homes with pink and red flowers, and eat sweets for a boost in attractiveness.

This holiday is an auspicious time for couples to get married.

I welcome You, Liufs, Lustbringer, Most Handsome of Gods.
You bring blushes to the faces of besotted youths
and make their bodies burn with yearning.
